Witch Heart Pendant with 20" Necklace Alchemy England Pewter Jewelry

Does this witch's heart pendant represent dark practices from the mists of antiquity, perhaps to scorn a former lover?  Or does it simply serve as a warning that you are not to be tested?

A pendant of a pillowed black pewter heart within a fine, decorative pewter frame, the heart pinned with five pewter nails with a sixth loose on a chain, which can be stuck into the vacant hole. A further decorative chain hangs on the opposite side.

On trace chain, 18", (46cm), overall length plus a 2" (5cm) extender chain.
